This is a great corrective exercise for motor control and core activation. The goal of the exercise is to sequence the movement of the trunk segmentally using a reflexive pattern learned in development around 4-6 months old. This is a foundational exercise we use at Nashville Hip as a building block for other progressions.
While clinical studies support the effectiveness of these exercises, individual results may vary. There are no guarantees of outcome. Before you decide on an exercise, please discuss treatment options with your physical therapist. Understanding the risks of each treatment / exercise can help you make the best decision for your individual situation. Always ask your physical therapist about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits. Only your physical therapist can determine the appropriate treatment for your situation.
